Evaluation - Question 3

What have you learned from your audience feedback? Once we had conceived of a plot, written our script and put together a shot list, we decided that it would be best to craft a pre-production survey, which we were able to do very easily using the website SurveyMonkey. We thought that this would be a great idea as it would enable us to engage with a possible audience for our film, as we were interested in knowing what kind of demographic that a film of this type may appeal to, and hear feedback from that particular demographic. We had an idea of what the main audience may consist of e.g. a more film literate audience, considering the fact that this is a short film, and more drama-heavy than a lot of mainstream films. We were also aware that they would probably be teens and younger adults, as the demographics that we wanted to portray within the film fit this age group. However, we wanted hard evidence of who, in particular, we should market the film towards, while hearing what exactly...

Post-Production Audience Feedback

Image
Audience Feedback We once again used SurveyMonkey to create a survey for our audience, which we were then able to share with friends over Facebook, just like we did with the last survey. This particular one was created as a follow up to our initial audience research that we carried out in pre-production, whereas this was done in the post-production stages and asked the respondents questions about our film after they had watched it.

'River' Script (Final Draft)

Image
Since the film is now complete, we have decided to showcase the final draft of the script that the actors used during production. Some of the dialogue was improvised when filming, but this is the final version of the script, that we brought with us, each time we filmed.

Recording Audio

Image
Most of the audio in 'River' was unusable. This was due to the immense wind speed on certain days, which meant that we had to go through each scene and record dubs of the lines spoken by each character. This process didn't take up too much time, but it was tedious, and we had written down each line that needed to be recorded and asked our actors to say the line in time with the footage of the scenes. This recording session worked out really well as our actors delivered accurate responses that stayed true to the character's original intentions. We used a field recorder microphone on a tripod to capture the audio. We wrapped a tea towel around the mic to reduce any wind and background noise. The voices turned out to be clear and comprehensible. All that is left to do is to add these recordings back into the film.

Filming: Day 4

Image
Filming: Day 4 This was the final day of filming, as we were able to complete all of the outdoor scenes that include our two lead characters, Ron and Kevin. This included the opening scene, with Kevin dying in the middle of the street, a retake (from Day 2) of The Ferryman approaching Kevin's dead body for the first time, and the final scenes between the two, with both characters walking away to close the film. We were also able to film the scenes of The Ferryman at home, that play toward the beginning of the film. We filmed numerous shots of Ron preparing for the day, and we plan to use elliptical editing to speed up this portion of the film, while also adding our own style; both in directorial and editing. These scenes were filmed in Aaron's house. We also created a fake Linkedin profile, of The Ferryman, to be displayed on his laptop. Furthermore, we filmed the scene that features Kevin being taken by The Ferryman to see his girlfriend, Amy, at her home, with Amy being una...

Filming: Day 3

Image
Filming: Day 3   Today we were able to finish the majority of our outdoor scenes. This was the earliest date that all of our cast members and crew were available once again, due to the Easter weekend and work commitments. We were once again filming in very poor conditions, however everybody was a lot more prepared this time, bringing much warmer clothing. Our actors once again delivered in their roles, and we were able to improvise on our script and shot list, while filming, to improve the overall quality of each of the scenes. The majority of the shots that we used for this scene were two-shots and tracking shots of the characters, as they needed to be shown travelling and conversing, as the scene featured the film's necessary exposition. This scene also featured a short appearance from a 'Limbo' (a hobo in our film's afterlife), played by Aaron. Aaron also acted in the next scene on this day, this time playing the role of Kevin's friend. During this scene I used...
